Advocacy Priorities
Reunite the Rivers
For over 50 years, an obsolete dam built as part of the failed Cross Florida Barge Canal has been damaging the health of historic Silver Springs, the Ocklawaha River, and the St. Johns.
SAVe our River’s Grasses
Submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) is the foundation of our river’s health. In 2023, St. Johns Riverkeeper launched its 5-year SAVe our River’s Grasses Expedition – seeking answers and solutions to the disappearing SAV of the St. Johns.
Don’t Feed the Algae
Toxic blue-green algae outbreaks, or harmful algae blooms (HABs), are increasing in duration and frequency threatening our waterways and our own health.
Resilient Ribault
Resilient Ribault is an initiative to address the challenges facing the waterways and communities in the Ribault River and Moncrief Creek watersheds. This area of the St. Johns River watershed is highly vulnerable to flooding and pollution problems, in addition to numerous socioeconomic factors.
River Rising
The St. Johns River resembles the Atlantic Ocean more than at any other time in its past: The currents are faster, the water is saltier and the tidal range can be more extreme.
