St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) St. Johns River Science Consortium
On May 28, St. Johns Riverkeeper had the opportunity to participate in the St. Johns River Consortium focused on submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) in the lower St. Johns River. The meeting, hosted by the SJRWMD, brought together scientists, resource managers, and conservation organizations to discuss the current state of SAV and opportunities for restoration.
St. Johns Riverkeeper’s Ecological Science Director, Soraya Aidinejad, and Community Engagement Coordinator, Jessica Finch, presented on our organization’s work – including the SAVe Our River’s Grasses Expedition, field findings, and potential solutions to restore this critical habitat.
The consortium also provided an opportunity to hear from experts representing a variety of agencies and organizations. Participants shared research findings, monitoring data, and observations from across the watershed, while engaging in collaborative discussions about the challenges facing the river and strategies that can help support the recovery of SAV and overall river health.
St. Johns Riverkeeper is dedicated to restoring our river’s grasses. We will continue to be a part of these conversations to ensure our state agencies’ priorities align with the river’s needs, and to collaborate with other experts to work toward real solutions.
