Black Birders Week
May 24 - May 30

Black Birders Week | Sunday, May 24 – Saturday, May 30
Black Birders Week was founded under the group Black AF in STEM in 2020, due to the lack of representation of the Black community in the outdoor space.
2026 Theme: “Flyways & Freedom: Advocacy, Action, and the Future”
This theme is about the journey toward liberation, the advocacy required to protect our shared environment, and the decisive action needed to build a future where everyone belongs.
Events in Jacksonville:
Join St. Johns Riverkeeper, The NAHAM Experience, and BlackAFInSTEM for a community-centered nature experience in honor of Black Birders Week – creating space for connection, mindfulness, and education through birdwatching in Jacksonville.
Guided Mindfulness Meditation + Bird Sound Experience | Wednesday, May 27 at 6 p.m. | Ribault Scenic Drive Park
Focus on the natural sounds of birds as The NAHAM Experience guides you through an outdoor meditation. Breathe and ground yourself in nature to lighten your mental load. We will reflect together after the meditation.
Birdwatching Trail Walk | Saturday May 30 at 10 a.m. | Riverview Park
Join us for a guided walk along the trails in Riverview Park, on the Trout River. We will point out and identify local bird species, and teach beginners how to best observe birds in their natural habitat.
Bring your own binoculars, if you have them.
