Join The Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience at Stetson University, St. Johns Riverkeeper, League of Women Voters of Volusia County, and East Central Florida Regional Resilience Collaborative on Earth Day as local experts explore our future in a changing climate, and our region’s resilience to flooding and sea level rise. Following this engaging panel discussion, the Sandra Stetson Aquatic Center will reveal a new mural on-site.
Our esteemed panelists, Jason Evans, Assoc. Prof. of Environmental Science and Studies, Stetson University; Lisa Rinaman, St. Johns Riverkeeper; Jenifer Rupert, Resilience Officer, East Central Florida Regional Planning Council and Audrey Berlie, Research Assistant at Stetson’s IWER will discuss our most recent challenges due to sea level rise and river flooding, resiliency planning, and comparative and practical solutions for our communities. Our interactive panel discussion will be followed by lunch, where you can further your conversation with our panelists.
Afterward, join us outdoors on the grounds of the Sandra Stetson Aquatic Center, where a new mural, designed by local artist Johnny Dame and implemented with Stetson student assistance, will be unveiled, and a new musical composition, A Jeaux D’eau for Lake Beresford, composed for Earth Day by Stetson School of Music student Luis E Quiroz Galvez, will be performed by Stetson School of Music students Olivia Corporon (violin I), Katarina Nieminen (violin II), Briana Mehershahi (viola), Georgie Gonzalez (cello), and Britney Pflanz (vibraphone).
