Lynda L. Orth Next Wave Leadership Academy

The Lynda L. Orth Next Wave Leadership Academy is designed for high school students passionate about the St. Johns River, environmental protection, water quality, community engagement, and conservation. We seek creative, motivated youth (grades 9-12) from all backgrounds. Up to 15 students will be selected each year for this summer program, which includes hands-on ecological learning, leadership opportunities, community projects, and public outreach.

St. Johns Riverkeeper launched the Lynda L. Orth Next Wave Leadership Academy to inspire and equip the next generation of river advocates. Each summer, 12-15 students will take part in hands-on field experiences, advocacy training, and a student-led final project that directly benefits the St. Johns River and our community.

I have noticed confidence in my child that… is in itself a winning moment. His confidence in working with a team has increased, and the recognition has motivated him to continue working on his project to bring about awareness and make real time impact in the community.

I just wanted to say thanks for the amazing summer you gave us. I have to admit I was so nervous to join the program at first, but then I realized it was actually quite fun…If you hadn’t given us this opportunity, we wouldn’t have had this chance!

I just wanted to thank you for this fantastic program…[My student] thoroughly enjoyed it and also learned a lot from you all. From just thinking and talking about the issues, he has moved on to look for solutions.
