We’re Brewing Up Solutions For the River with people who love the St. Johns from the headwaters to the mouth of the river. We began in the headwaters of the St. Johns River in Indian River County\, and will travel downstream stopping along the way until we reach the Atlantic Ocean in Mayport\, Duval County. Join us for monthly roundtable discussions that highlight various parts of our vibrant river\, adjacent watersheds\, and key figures along our journey. \nFuture locations for this series will include Palatka\, St. Augustine\, Jacksonville\, and Mayport. \nTopic: Inciting Action Against Climate Change\nRegister\nPlease RSVP here to let us know you’re coming and to receive any event updates. \nHost: Lisa Rinaman\, St. Johns Riverkeeper: The chief advocate and public’s voice for the St. Johns River\nHer responsibilities include holding regulatory agencies and those polluting the river accountable; identifying and advocating for solutions that will protect and restore the river; working with government entities\, businesses\, community leaders and citizens to resolve problems that impact the river’s health; and communicating with the media and the public to educate and raise awareness about important river-related issues. \nLisa was instrumental in the creation of Waterkeepers Florida\, a formal collaboration of 15 Waterkeeper Alliance programs united across the state. She is also one of the founding members of the Reunite the Rivers Coalition working to reconnect Silver Springs\, the Ocklawaha and the St. Johns as the Great Florida Riverway. In addition\, Lisa serves on the Florida Springs Council Board. \nShe enjoys Florida’s waters and natural wonders with her husband\, Mark\, and two boys\, Mark Jr. and August. \nSpecial Guest: Kristin Anderson: Chief Branch Officer for IDEAS For Us\nAs the Chief Branch Officer of IDEAS For Us\, Kristin currently spearheads environmental initiatives in Florida and works to catalyze global leaders to replicate these efforts in their respective communities. The approach centers on addressing worldwide challenges through grassroots solutions\, championing education\, inspiration\, and empowerment to incite action against climate change on both individual and community levels. Equipped with a Biology degree specializing in Evolution\, Ecology\, and Conservation\, Kristin works to integrate scientific and social considerations to devise sustainable solutions. \nAbout Ideas For Us: IDEAS For Us is an Orlando-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and accredited NGO of the United Nations. The tour will include a visit to their aquarium\, hatchery facilities\, as well as a nature walk throughout the grounds. Meet fellow St. Johns Riverkeeper members as you explore and learn about the watershed that we all love together! If you are not yet a member of St. Johns Riverkeeper\, you can become a member here. \nRegister\nRegistration is required. A $15 donation to St. Johns Riverkeeper is requested to help cover expenses. Capacity is limited\, so be sure to reserve your spot early! \nAbout Welaka National Fish Hatchery\nSince 1871\, National Fish Hatcheries have been applying science-based approaches to conservation challenges. We work with our partners and engage the public to conserve\, restore\, and enhance fish and other aquatic resources for the continuing benefit of the American people. Conservation is at the heart of what we do\, and we recognize that we do this work for the American people–both the present generation who benefit today and future generations who will inherit our legacy of conserving America’s aquatic resources. \nWelaka National Fish Hatchery is charged with producing Atlantic Striped Bass for the St. Johns River in order to maintain the population for ecological\, historical and economic purposes. The hatchery also works with Gulf Coast states to produce and protect Gulf of Mexico Striped Bass from Florida to Georgia and Alabama. Recently\, the hatchery has begun work with two federally listed species\, the federally threatened Eastern Indigo Snake and the federally endangered Florida Grasshopper Sparrow. \nRegister\nRegistration is required.
