SUMMARY:River Rising: Brewing Up Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, September 12 at 6 p.m. at Fishweir Brewing Company\nIt is critical that we all do our part now to tackle climate change to protect our waterways and the future of Northeast Florida. Join us in Jacksonville’s Murray Hill neighborhood for our September Brewing Up Solutions event. \nCome for a pint and for meaningful conversation on how we can all be part of the solution. \nThe St. Johns RIVERKEEPER Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV) Team will be on hand to share what we’ve learned so far during our 2023 SAVe our River’s Grasses Expedition. We have been seeking answers and solutions to the disappearing SAV of the St. Johns as we survey an 80-mile stretch of the most-endangered habitat of the St. Johns.  \nSubmerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) is an important biological indicator of river health and is vital to the continuation of a healthy river ecosystem – providing water quality filtration\, erosion control\, vital fish and wildlife habitat and much more. \nThis event is part of our 2023 series of brewery conversations exploring solutions to climate change\, sea level rise\, and the pollution problems threatening the health of our river and our communities. Brought to you by St. Johns Riverkeeper’s Water Policy Group. \nJoin us to discuss the growing threats to our river’s SAV and what we can do to give our river’s grasses a fighting chance. \nRegister\nThis event is free\, but we ask that you please RSVP! \nMeet the Panel\nSoraya Aidinejad \nSoraya Aidinejad (pictured right) is St. Johns Riverkeeper’s advocacy specialist. Some of her key responsibilities are monitoring the health of the St. Johns River\, evaluating and prioritizing issues and emerging threats\, and advocating for actions to improve and protect the river’s health and expanding relationships with watershed stakeholders. \nBefore starting her role at St. Johns Riverkeeper\, Soraya worked at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as a wetlands evaluator/inspector and a stormwater management inspector. She also worked as a biologist at a private environmental company with a variety of job functions\, including wetland delineations and reviews with jurisdictional agencies\, wildlife assessments\, invasive plant control\, and tree surveys. \nZoë Tressel  \nZoë Tressel (pictured left) is currently a member of St. Johns Riverkeeper’s advocacy team\, starting as an intern in February of 2023. She is currently seeking dual masters degrees in Marine Science and Public Policy at Jacksonville University\, with a prospective graduation date of April\, 2024.  \nZoe also works part-time as a biological scientist for Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. She is passionate about creating informed\, science-driven policy that will ultimately serve to provide safer\, cleaner\, and more accessible environmental systems throughout important watersheds like the St. Johns River.
