SUMMARY:Henry Klutho Park Cleanup with With Love\, Jax
DESCRIPTION:Henry Klutho Park Cleanup with With Love\, Jax | Friday\, September 13\, 2024 from 1-3 p.m. at Henry Klutho Park\nHelp With Love\, Jax clean up Henry Klutho Park before their Dare to D.I.S.C. charity disc golf tournament! This scenic park just off Hogan’s Creek in the Springfield neighborhood of Jacksonville was named in honor of famed architect Henry J. Klutho. \nPark History\nThe Hogans Creek Improvement Project of 1929-30\, designed by architect Henry Klutho (1873-1964) and engineered by Charles Imeson\, turned much of the park grounds into a lovely Venetian-style promenade. The City renamed a portion of Springfield Park in 1984 to honor Mr. Klutho\, a Springfield resident whose high-rise buildings in downtown and Prairie School of architecture transformed Jacksonville after the Great Fire of 1901. \nRegister\nPlease register in advance so we can get an idea of how many volunteers to expect\, and to receive any event updates.

SUMMARY:River Oaks Park Education and Service Outing with San Marco Preservation Society
DESCRIPTION:River Oaks Park Education and Service Outing with San Marco Preservation Society | Saturday\, December 14\, 2024 | 10 a.m. – Noon | 1000 River Oaks Rd.\nJoin SJRK and the San Marco Preservation Society for an educational cleanup and outing at River Oaks Park! \nRegister\nRSVP to let us know you plan to join us. \nThis is a recreational\, educational\, and service outing for individuals who value neighborhood greenspaces and the St Johns River. The event will illustrate the role the park plays in sustaining community vibrancy and resiliency. It will also illustrate the role the park and its creek play in sustaining St Johns River health. \nThe outing will begin at the bridge in River Oaks Park near Brookwood Road and proceed westward along Craig Creek to the St Johns River and then back to the bridge. The event will include a walk through the park to collect trash and debris with stops to discuss the park vegetation and the role it plays in sustaining river health. A master naturalist will identify native species to be maintained and invasive species to be removed. A representative from St Johns Riverkeeper will discuss the role of the park and Craig Creek in sustaining St Johns River health. \nWhat to Bring/Wear\n\nComfortable\, water-resistant shoes or boots (Especially if you plan to help pick up trash – the grassy areas of the park and the creek bank tend to be wet.)\nProtective clothing (hat\, sunglasses) and sunscreen\nFULL reusable water bottle\n\nThere are no restrooms and/or portlets in the park\, so plan accordingly. \nDirections and Parking\nThe address for River Oaks Park is 1000 River Oaks Road\, but the outing will begin at the bridge across Craig Creek at the East end of the park near Brookwood Road. Parking along Brookwood Road is limited\, so consider parking in the Southside Methodist Church parking area adjacent to San Jose Blvd and walking to the starting location. \nGPS Coordinates for Starting Location: 30°17.6990’N\, 81°38.9300’W
