Prior to joining the City of Jacksonville\, Anne served as the Coastal Resilience Manager for the City of New Orleans where she implemented nature-based solutions to sea-level risk and coastal land loss. Anne’s previous experience also includes serving at the White House Council on Environmental Quality\, where she participated in the development of climate adaptation and resilience policies to meet the Obama Administration’s resilience goals.

Following the tour participants are welcome to remain\, have lunch\, and explore the natural beauty of the area. \nRegister\nPlease register in advance and let us know you’re coming. \nIf the $10 suggested donation to attend is a barrier\, you can email info@stjohnsrvierkeeper.org to register instead. \nAbout Wetland Preserve\nWetland Preserve’s primary parcel consists of 3\,800 acres\, all of which is protected by a Florida Forever conservation easement and also falls within the O2O wildlife corridor. \nAdjacent to the Rice Creek Conservation Area\, it is a 5000 acre project of the Saint Johns River Water Management District located in Putnam County\, Florida. On the southern border is Nine Mile Swamp Park\, a 1268 acre conservation project owned by Putnam County. They are actively conserving a 3\,725-acre area in northeast Florida so diverse it encompasses forests\, flatwoods\, sandhill and swamps\, and borders Rice Creek. They have lived on the eastbank of the St. Johns just south of Julington Creek for nearly 35 years. Ben and LouAnne were the 2021 Jon Gould Florida Outstanding Tree Farmers of the Year. \nThe Williams have taken on many roles as Florida land stewards. They work cooperatively with the FWC’s Landowner Assistance Program on conserving native wildlife and habitat\, and helped pioneer the first landowner-led prescribed burn association in the state. Along with being founding members of St. Johns Riverkeeper\, they belong to the FWC’s local Black Bear Stakeholder Group\, and offer recreation opportunities to wounded veterans through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Operations Outdoor Freedom. They also use best management practices as a Stewardship Forest under the Florida Forest Service.

SUMMARY:Bull's Bay Preserve Cleanup & Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join St. Johns Riverkeeper and Girls Who Hike for a combo cleanup & hike! \nBulls Bay Preserve consists of 1\,222 acres\, acquired on December 21\, 1999 as part of a conservation easement for mitigation. The preserve consists mostly of wetlands with tributaries to the Trout and Ortega rivers originating in the swamps that buffer the Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail from Imeson Road to Bulls Bay Highway. Amenities include the northern swamp trail off of Imeson Road and over two miles of hiking/mountain bike trails at the Old Plank Road trailhead. With a variety of elevation changes\, trail users encounter large oak trees\, lily ponds\, and even a small waterfall. \nCleanup bags\, gloves and grabbers will be provided. \nREGISTER
