SUMMARY:Search for the Swallow-Tailed Kite on the Ocklawaha
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a paddle on the Ocklawaha River with Adventure Outpost and special guest Gina Kent\, a Swallow-tailed Kite expert from the Avian Research and Conservation Institute (ARCI) in Gainesville. Although the Swallow-tailed Kites will be the focus\, she will point out and speak on the other birdlife we encounter along the way. \nWe will begin just downstream from the Kirkpatrick (formerly Rodman) Dam. This section of the Ocklawaha below the dam is wide and braided\, and we’ll navigate past numerous side streams and winding forks that make this an interesting area to explore. \nThe wide\, open channel of the Ocklawaha River offers an excellent panorama of river forests and swamps that in some places stretch a half-mile back from the main channel. Here\, we find a menagerie of wildlife that love such places. We’ll step back in time and see very little sign of civilization. As history buffs dream of Acuera warriors and the steamboats which once plied these waters\, birders and animal lovers will be getting a lot of use out of their binoculars and cameras. In addition to its scenic beauty\, this stretch of the Ocklawaha also serves as an excellent “living museum” of man’s 12\,000 year relationship with nature in Florida. \nWhen we make our way back downstream\, we will stop for lunch at the site of the former river settlement/steamboat landing of Davenport\, which is adjacent to the Davenport Mound\, an ancient Indian burial site first excavated in the 1800’s. \nThis is an easy-paced paddle on the slow-moving tannin-stained waters and usually takes about 3-4 hours. \nRegister\nTo register\, please call Adventure Outpost at (386) 497-4214. SUMMARY:Rising Tides Ocklawaha River Paddle and Camp
DESCRIPTION:Join Rising Tides for our annual paddle + camping trip on the Ocklawaha River – the largest tributary of the St. Johns! We will begin our journey at Ray Wayside Park (9564 NE 28th Ln\, Silver Springs\, FL 34488) on Saturday\, June 4. Meet there at 9:30 a.m. for a prompt takeoff at 10 a.m. to paddle to Gores Landing (13800 NE 98th St\, Fort McCoy\, FL 32134) where we will set up camp for the night. The paddle is approximately 13 miles\, but all downstream and is an easy paddle even for beginners. \nSunday morning\, you can head home or join us for a paddle from Gores Landing to the Ocklawaha Canoe Outpost & Resort (15260 NE 152nd Pl\, Fort McCoy\, FL 32134)\, about a 9-mile journey. We will have a car(s) parked at Gores Landing to shuttle participants and their boats back to Ray’s on Sunday. \nCampsites at Gores Landing are first-come\, first-served. Gores Landing is a cozy campground right on the banks of the Ocklawaha River. If any campers would like to set up camp before the paddle\, they may arrive at Gores Landing Friday night. \nParticipants must bring all of your own gear. DESCRIPTION:Volunteers are the backbone of the St. Johns Riverkeeper and all of the work that we are able to accomplish in our 9\,000+ square mile watershed.  We could not accomplish all that we do without you!  We now invite you to learn more about how you can be a part of the solution.\n\n\nOn Tuesday\, July 19th\, the St. Johns Riverkeeper will conduct volunteer training which will give you an opportunity to learn more about how you can help the St. Johns River and her tributaries by being:\n⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ \n\n\n\nClean Up Captains\nRepresenting SJRK at tabling events\nBeing a part of Get Your Feet Wet\n\n⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ \nThis will be a hybrid\, in-person and virtual\, event.  We look forward to participation throughout the watershed!\n\n⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀\n      5:30 pm    Check-In and Mingle\n      6:00 pm    Training to Begin\n⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀\nLight refreshments will be served in-person.\n\nREGISTER

DESCRIPTION:July’s Wine & Wisdom on the Water will feature local favorites\, Wayne Wood and Lana Shuttlesworth.\nGuests will learn about Jacksonville’s history\, architectural heritage\, and of course the scenic beauty of the St. Johns River. \n\n\nWith a new boat trip and speaker each month\, this speakers series will present opportunities for participants to learn more about the St. Johns River. Throughout the year we’ll have experts on the River’s history\, fun and fascinating ways to enjoy the River\, as well as issues threatening the health of the St. Johns River and its tributaries. \nThe River Taxi will depart from the Jackson Street Dock\, in Riverside\, located at the River’s edge on Jackson Street\, between the Winston Family YMCA and Haskell Buildings. \nBeer and Wine are available for purchase on the River Taxi. \nREGISTER\nCost\n$25 per ticket
