SUMMARY:Oyster Reef Installation: Volunteer Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:Oyster Reef Installation: Volunteer Opportunity | Wednesday\, June 10 | Noon | Riverview Park\nIn partnership with Jacksonville Oyster Conservation & Riverview Collective Community Organization (RCCO) \nRoll up your sleeves and help restore the Trout River shoreline! Join St. Johns Riverkeeper\, Jacksonville Oyster Conservation\, and RCCO for a hands-on POSH Module installation at Riverview Park as part of the Resilient Ribault Initiative. \nPOSH stands for Pervious Oyster Shell Habitat – 30-pound balls of recycled oyster shells and cement that anchor natural oyster reef growth along the riverbank. A single adult oyster filters up to 50 gallons of water per day\, and every module we place gives the Trout River’s natural filtration system a stronger foothold. \nVolunteers will carry and place modules along the water’s edge – active\, tangible work with real impact. \nWhat to bring & wear:\n\nGarden gloves (required – modules are heavy and rough)\nClothes and shoes you don’t mind getting wet or muddy; some volunteers will wade into the shallows\nSunscreen and water\n\nRegister\nRSVP for this volunteer opportunity!

SUMMARY:Paddle the Ocklawaha
DESCRIPTION:Paddle the Ocklawaha with Adventure Outpost | Saturday\, June 13 | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Ocklawaha River (Palatka)\nJoin us for a 3.5 hour paddling tour of the Ocklawaha River with expert guide Lars Andersen! We will begin just downstream from the Kirkpatrick (formerly Rodman) Dam. This section of the Ocklawaha below the dam is wide and braided. There are numerous side streams and winding forks that make this an interesting area to explore. \nThe wide\, open channel of the Ocklawaha River offers an excellent panorama of river forests and swamps that\, in places\, stretch a half-mile back from the main channel\, and are a refuge for a wonderful menagerie of wildlife with very little sign of civilization. As history buffs dream of Acuera warriors and the steamboats which once plied these waters\, birders and animal lovers will be busy with their binoculars and cameras. In addition to its scenic beauty\, this stretch of the Ocklawaha also serves as an excellent “living museum” of man’s 15\,000 year relationship with nature in Florida. \nA couple of hours into our downstream paddle\, we will stop for lunch at the site of the former river settlement/steamboat landing of Davenport. Also on this site is Davenport Mound\, an ancient Indian burial site first excavated in the 1800’s. \nPrice\nTour & Kayak Rental: $65 \nBring Your Own Kayak/Board: $50 \nRegister\nTo register to join us\, please call Adventure Outpost at (386) 497-4214. Mention the date (May 29\, or June 13) and St. Johns Riverkeeper and have your payment information ready to secure your reservation.

SUMMARY:Little Big Econ Snow Hill Cleanup with Central Florida RECON
DESCRIPTION:Little Big Econ Snow Hill Cleanup with Central Florida RECON | Sunday\, June 14 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. | 2000 Snow Hill Rd\, Chuluota\, FL\nJoin RECON and St. Johns Riverkeeper at Snow Hill for a collaborative cleanup of the Little Big Econ River! Water levels will be lower than normal due to the ongoing drought but this should help us find trash that would be otherwise submerged during a wet season. \nPlease note that as the days are getting hotter\, we will be meeting at 8:30 a.m. \nOur launch spot is under the bridge\, take the dirt trail down by the riverbank and please park on the side. We will have at least 6 kayaks available to use for the cleanup\, they will be available on a first to arrive\, first to launch basis. \nAs always\, please bring a hat and plenty of water. This is a remote spot and no potable water or bathrooms are available on site. Cleanup equipment will be provided for the event. As there are trails near our launch spot\, shoreline volunteers are welcome and needed as well. \nWe will take a group photo at the start and then after the event we will bag and weigh our collective haul. \nRSVP\nRegister here on Meetup!
