SUMMARY:UNFILTERED - The Truth About Oysters Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:UNFILTERED – The Truth About Oysters Film Screening and Sustainability Art Gallery | Tuesday\, February 10 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at St. John’s Cathedral\nUNFILTERED: The Truth About Oysters is an Emmy award-winning documentary film that explores the oyster’s role both in our world and its own. Ashore\, oysters are a beloved delicacy\, a commodity driving a robust market\, and a way of life for generations of people. Below the waves\, oysters have long been the silent protectors of the oceans. They are a keystone species that filter and clean vast volumes of water. Oysters also engineer the foundation for entire ecosystems in bays and estuaries across the world where thousands of species thrive\, from plankton to game fish. They are living water filtration systems\, storm barriers\, and an ancient source of protein. \nAfter The Film: Join the conversation with Trey Ford\, Strategic Partnerships & Programming coordinator at St. Johns Riverkeeper and Hunter Mathews Environmental Scientist and Certified Coastal Practitioner. \nRegister\nThis is a free event\, but please reserve your spot here.

At Riverview Park\, volunteers play a vital role in caring for one of the most important public access points to the river—supporting clean water\, healthy habitats\, and safe\, welcoming spaces for recreation and learning. \nThrough hands-on volunteer opportunities\, Resilient Ribault connects residents\, partners\, and local leaders to nature-based solutions like shoreline stewardship\, litter prevention\, habitat enhancement\, and community education. Every hour you give helps strengthen river health\, build neighborhood resilience\, and ensure the Trout River remains a resource for generations to come. \nWhether you’re a first-time volunteer or a returning steward of the river\, your participation at Riverview Park directly supports environmental justice\, climate resilience\, and community pride in Northwest Jacksonville.

SUMMARY:VOG Creation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:VOG Creation Workshop | Saturday\, March 14 from 9 a.m. – Noon at the Jacksonville University Marine Science Research Institute Building\nSt. Johns RIVERKEEPER\, CCA Florida and the Marine Science Research Institute at Jacksonville University have teamed up to launch a Vertical Oyster Garden (VOG) Program in the Jacksonville area. Vertical Oyster Gardens consist of recycled oyster shells that are strung together to create habitat for new oysters along with many other species of marine invertebrates. A single adult oyster has the ability to filter up to 50 gallons of water per day and each VOG can accumulate dozens of new oysters in just a few months. The goal is to distribute hundreds of VOGs throughout the Jacksonville area to improve water quality and create new oyster habitats. The Marine Science Research Institute at Jacksonville University will be incorporating a research aspect into this project with plans to monitor the VOGs following the deployments. \nEvent Details\nWe are hosting an assembly workshop to build a fourth batch of VOGs for local residents. There will be stations to punch holes in the recycled oyster shells\, string them on the rope\, and tie them. Bring garden gloves if you have them as the oyster shells can be hard and rigid. \nRegister\nRegister here to volunteer! Spots are limited in this workshop. \nSt. Johns River VOG Program\nLearn more about the St. Johns River VOG Program here. If you live on the St. Johns River\, or a tributary\, north of the Arlington River – you can request your own VOGs.

Whether you label this as “climate change” or call it part of a natural cycle\, these disruptions are happening – and causing real pain and loss even here in Jacksonville. SUMMARY:State of the Watershed
DESCRIPTION:State of the Watershed | Wednesday\, April 22 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at WJCT Studios\nOn Earth Day 2026\, St. Johns RIVERKEEPER is proud to host our very first State of the Watershed event – an inspiring evening dedicated to the health\, future\, and protection of the St. Johns River. \nThis special gathering will take place on Wednesday\, April 22\, 2026\, at WJCT Studios. Let’s bring together community leaders and river advocates who share a commitment to clean water and a thriving watershed. \nThe evening will begin with hors d’oeuvres and drinks at 5:30 p.m.\, followed by a presentation in the studio during which our team will share a vital update on the current state of the watershed – the status of our river’s health\, the challenges that threaten its future\, and what we must do to protect this extraordinary waterway. \nThis inaugural event comes at a critical moment. The St. Johns River continues to face growing pressures\, and the work of St. Johns RIVERKEEPER has never been more important. \nGet Your Ticket\nYou can purchase an individual ticket\, or become a sponsor\, here. \nWe are honored to recognize the memory of Tommy Davis and pay tribute to the first responders whose dedication and compassion guided the search efforts. In gratitude for their service and in remembrance of Tommy\, we will begin the event with a special acknowledgment of these individuals.
