SUMMARY:Keeping Current Lunch & Learn: Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV)
DESCRIPTION:Keeping Current Lunch & Learn: Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV) | Wednesday\, May 13 at Noon | Zoom (Virtual)\nYou’re invited to join us for a conversation focused on one of the St. Johns River’s most important elements: its submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV). This webinar comes a week before we launch the 4th year of our SAVe Our River’s Grasses Expedition. \nWe’ll explore why SAV is essential to the river’s overall health\, from supporting wildlife habitat to improving water quality. The discussion will also cover the key stressors contributing to the decline of these grasses\, what we’ve observed through our data so far\, and the solutions needed to support SAV recovery. \nYou’ll hear directly from your St. Johns Riverkeeper\, Lisa Rinaman\, and SJRK’s Ecological Science Director\, Soraya Aidinejad\, as they share insights from the field and outline the path forward for restoring the river’s grasses. \nRSVP\nRegister here to receive the link to join.

SUMMARY:Paddle the Ocklawaha
DESCRIPTION:Paddle the Ocklawaha with Adventure Outpost | Friday\, May 29 or Saturday\, June 13 | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Ocklawaha River (Palatka)\nJoin us for a 3.5 hour paddling tour of the Ocklawaha River with expert guide Lars Andersen! We will begin just downstream from the Kirkpatrick (formerly Rodman) Dam. This section of the Ocklawaha below the dam is wide and braided. There are numerous side streams and winding forks that make this an interesting area to explore. \nThe wide\, open channel of the Ocklawaha River offers an excellent panorama of river forests and swamps that\, in places\, stretch a half-mile back from the main channel\, and are a refuge for a wonderful menagerie of wildlife with very little sign of civilization. As history buffs dream of Acuera warriors and the steamboats which once plied these waters\, birders and animal lovers will be busy with their binoculars and cameras. In addition to its scenic beauty\, this stretch of the Ocklawaha also serves as an excellent “living museum” of man’s 15\,000 year relationship with nature in Florida. \nA couple of hours into our downstream paddle\, we will stop for lunch at the site of the former river settlement/steamboat landing of Davenport. Also on this site is Davenport Mound\, an ancient Indian burial site first excavated in the 1800’s. \nPrice\nTour & Kayak Rental: $65 \nBring Your Own Kayak/Board: $50 \nRegister\nTo register to join us\, please call Adventure Outpost at (386) 497-4214. Mention the date (May 29\, or June 13) and St. Johns Riverkeeper and have your payment information ready to secure your reservation.

DESCRIPTION:Paddle the Ocklawaha with Adventure Outpost | Saturday\, June 13 | 10 a.m. \nPrice\nTour & Kayak Rental: $65 \nBring Your Own Kayak/Board: $50 \nRegister\nThis event is officially sold out – but you can call Adventure Outpost at (386) 497-4214 and ask about other outings.
