SUMMARY:Resilient Ribault: Memorial Cemetery Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Resilient Ribault: Memorial Cemetery Cleanup | Friday\, October 3 from 9-11 a.m. at Memorial Cemetery (6073 Moncrief Rd\, Jacksonville\, FL 32209)\nHelp us clean up this historic cemetery in the Ribault River watershed ahead of our Cemetery Tour with Ennis Davis on October 4. \nIt’s been said that a city’s history is written on its tombstones\, and nowhere is this truer than at Memorial Cemetery\, one of Jacksonville’s largest historic African American cemeteries. \nParking\nAddress: 6073 Moncrief Rd\, Jacksonville\, FL 32209 (corner of Edgewood Avenue and Moncrief Road – it is NOT Moncrief Rd W) \nIf you will need to leave early\, please do not pull into the cemetery to park. There is really no place to turn around once you enter. Since there are no designated parking spaces\, vehicles will be parked single file along the dirt road that runs through the cemetery. Also\, consider carpooling\, if you are attending with friends or family. \nRSVP\nRSVP here to let us know you’re coming!

SUMMARY:VOG Creation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:VOG Creation Workshop | Saturday\, October 18 from 9 a.m. – Noon at the Jacksonville University Marine Science Research Institute Building\nSt. Johns RIVERKEEPER\, CCA Florida and the Marine Science Research Institute at Jacksonville University have teamed up to launch a Vertical Oyster Garden (VOG) Program in the Jacksonville area. Vertical Oyster Gardens consist of recycled oyster shells that are strung together to create habitat for new oysters along with many other species of marine invertebrates. A single adult oyster has the ability to filter up to 50 gallons of water per day and each VOG can accumulate dozens of new oysters in just a few months. The goal is to distribute hundreds of VOGs throughout the Jacksonville area to improve water quality and create new oyster habitats. The Marine Science Research Institute at Jacksonville University will be incorporating a research aspect into this project with plans to monitor the VOGs following the deployments. \nEvent Details\nWe are hosting an assembly workshop to build a third batch of VOGs for local residents. There will be stations to punch holes in the recycled oyster shells\, string them on the rope\, and tie them. Bring garden gloves if you have them as the oyster shells can be hard and rigid. \nRegister\nRegister here to volunteer! Spots are limited in this workshop. \nSt. Johns River VOG Program\nLearn more about the St. Johns River VOG Program here. If you live on the St. Johns River\, or a tributary\, north of the Arlington River – you can request your own VOGs.
