At Riverview Park\, volunteers play a vital role in caring for one of the most important public access points to the river—supporting clean water\, healthy habitats\, and safe\, welcoming spaces for recreation and learning. \nThrough hands-on volunteer opportunities\, Resilient Ribault connects residents\, partners\, and local leaders to nature-based solutions like shoreline stewardship\, litter prevention\, habitat enhancement\, and community education. Every hour you give helps strengthen river health\, build neighborhood resilience\, and ensure the Trout River remains a resource for generations to come. \nWhether you’re a first-time volunteer or a returning steward of the river\, your participation at Riverview Park directly supports environmental justice\, climate resilience\, and community pride in Northwest Jacksonville.

SUMMARY:Florida Climate Week
DESCRIPTION:Florida Climate Week | October 5-11\, 2026\nNow in its sixth year\, Florida Climate Week is a powerful celebration of engagement\, education\, and collective action focused on climate and resilience challenges facing our state. \nJacksonville Events\nRiverview Boat Excursion | Monday\, October 5 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. | Riverview Park Boat Ramp\nJoin St. Johns Riverkeeper\, Riverview Collective Community Organization (RCCO) and COJ Sustainability Department during Florida Climate Week sponsored by the VOLO Foundation as we explore the Trout River and discuss opportunities for access\, water quality and infrastructure improvements. \nThe trip will take place from 5:30pm to 6:30pm on October 5th. Please arrive at Riverview Park Boat Ramp by 5:15pm so we can board\, receive the safety instructions\, and be on our way! \nUNFILTERED – The Truth About Oysters: Film Screening & Panel | Tuesday\, October 6 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. | Highlands Regional Library\nThis Emmy award-winning documentary reveals the oyster’s hidden double life. On our plates\, they’re a delicacy and a livelihood. Beneath the surface\, they’re one of nature’s most powerful tools — a keystone species that filters and cleans vast volumes of water\, buffers shorelines from storms\, and anchors entire estuary ecosystems. \nBut the reefs are vanishing. Ninety percent of the world’s ancient oyster reefs have collapsed in the last thirty years\, and Florida’s own Apalachicola Bay is slipping toward the same fate under the pressures of pollution\, coastal development\, and overharvesting. The film makes a hopeful case: shell recycling\, artificial reefs\, and freshwater management can still turn the tide. \nThat work is already underway right here in Jacksonville. Along the Ribault\, Trout\, and St. Johns Rivers\, we’re putting these same nature-based solutions into practice — building Pervious Oyster Shell Habitat (POSH) modules and Vertical Oyster Gardens to restore living shorelines\, and helping launch a recycled oyster shell collection system that gives discarded shells a second life as new reef. Every oyster we return to the water is another filter cleaning the St. Johns. \nAfter the film: Stay for a conversation with local panelists who are harnessing the power of oysters to restore and filter the St. Johns River — and learn how you can get involved. \nRSVP here to reserve your spot!
