SUMMARY:Little Big Econ Snow Hill Cleanup with Central Florida RECON
DESCRIPTION:Little Big Econ Snow Hill Cleanup with Central Florida RECON | Sunday\, June 14 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. | 2000 Snow Hill Rd\, Chuluota\, FL\nJoin RECON and St. Johns Riverkeeper at Snow Hill for a collaborative cleanup of the Little Big Econ River! Water levels will be lower than normal due to the ongoing drought but this should help us find trash that would be otherwise submerged during a wet season. \nPlease note that as the days are getting hotter\, we will be meeting at 8:30 a.m. \nOur launch spot is under the bridge\, take the dirt trail down by the riverbank and please park on the side. We will have at least 6 kayaks available to use for the cleanup\, they will be available on a first to arrive\, first to launch basis. \nAs always\, please bring a hat and plenty of water. This is a remote spot and no potable water or bathrooms are available on site. Cleanup equipment will be provided for the event. As there are trails near our launch spot\, shoreline volunteers are welcome and needed as well. \nWe will take a group photo at the start and then after the event we will bag and weigh our collective haul. \nRSVP\nRegister here on Meetup!

(1461 Hendricks Ave\, Jacksonville\, FL 32207)\nSt. Johns Riverkeeper (SJRK) is expanding its Brewing Up Solutions brewery series this year to be watershed-wide. We’re Brewing Up Solutions For the River with people who love the St. Johns from the headwaters to the mouth of the river. Come for a pint and for meaningful conversation on how we can all be part of the solution. \nOur final location for this series will be in Mayport. We have already visited Vero Beach\, Sanford\, St. Augustine and Palatka. \nRegister\nPlease RSVP here to let us know you’re coming and to receive any event updates. \nTopic: Resilient Jacksonville\nHost: Lisa Rinaman\, St. Johns Riverkeeper: The chief advocate and public’s voice for the St. Johns River\nHer responsibilities include holding regulatory agencies and those polluting the river accountable; identifying and advocating for solutions that will protect and restore the river; working with government entities\, businesses\, community leaders and citizens to resolve problems that impact the river’s health; and communicating with the media and the public to educate and raise awareness about important river-related issues. \nLisa was instrumental in the creation of Waterkeepers Florida\, a formal collaboration of 15 Waterkeeper Alliance programs united across the state. SUMMARY:Ocklawaha Paddle with Adventure Outpost
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a paddling tour of the Ocklawaha River with expert guide Lars Andersen! We will begin just downstream from the Kirkpatrick (formerly Rodman) Dam. This section of the Ocklawaha below the dam is wide and braided\, and we’ll navigate past numerous side streams and winding forks that make this an interesting area to explore. \nThe wide\, open channel of the Ocklawaha River offers an excellent panorama of river forests and swamps that in some places stretch a half-mile back from the main channel. Here\, we find a menagerie of wildlife that love such places. We’ll step back in time and see very little sign of civilization. As history buffs dream of Acuera warriors and the steamboats which once plied these waters\, birders and animal lovers will be getting a lot of use out of their binoculars and cameras. In addition to its scenic beauty\, this stretch of the Ocklawaha also serves as an excellent “living museum” of man’s 12\,000 year relationship with nature in Florida. \nWhen we make our way back downstream\, we will stop for lunch at the site of the former river settlement/steamboat landing of Davenport\, which is adjacent to the Davenport Mound\, an ancient Indian burial site first excavated in the 1800’s. \nThis is an easy-paced paddle on the slow-moving tannin-stained waters and usually takes about 3-4 hours. \nRegister\nTo register\, please call Adventure Outpost at (386) 497-4214. Mention the date (March 4) and St. Johns Riverkeeper and have your payment information ready (they accept VISA and MasterCard) to secure your reservation. \nCost\n$55 (includes kayak rental) \n$40 (bring your own)

SUMMARY:Search for the Swallow-Tailed Kite on the Ocklawaha
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a paddle on the Ocklawaha River with Adventure Outpost and special guest Gina Kent\, a Swallow-tailed Kite expert from the Avian Research and Conservation Institute (ARCI) in Gainesville. Although the Swallow-tailed Kites will be the focus\, she will point out and speak on the other birdlife we encounter along the way. \nWe will begin just downstream from the Kirkpatrick (formerly Rodman) Dam. Mention the date (June 4) and St. Johns Riverkeeper and have your payment information ready (they accept VISA and MasterCard) to secure your reservation. \nCost\n$45 (includes kayak rental) \n$35 (bring your own)
